Artist Lori Lebel and I have been friends for several years. (Our friendship began as she was a music writer for one of my newspapers and does interviews for Positive News For You.)
We have stayed in touch throughout the years.
And I admire her artwork.
Connecticut native Lori Lebel is an acrylic painter that began her artistic journey at the young age of eleven. Self-taught, she learned techniques using oil paints from watching Bob Ross on television, and it wasn’t long before she sold her first few paintings by age thirteen. By her mid- teens she received several awards at school and was the first to receive Johnson & Johnson’s Young Achiever Award, having her art displayed in a new wing of their main office and being recognized in the company-wide magazine. This fueled her passion for art even further and she began sampling other mediums, such as acrylic and watercolor. She also began sketching, in particular musicians she favored.
Lori continued honing her skills in art until she married and had children in her mid-twenties; she made the bittersweet decision to put down the paintbrushes and focus on raising her family. During that time, she also began booking and managing musicians to bring in money on the side.
Time passed, and in 2017 her passion for art rekindled. She once again began dabbling in acrylics and landscapes. By 2018, her love of music and art collided when she began her black and white paintings she titled the ‘Icon Series’, which highlights musicians that have made an impact in music. Initially intended as a personal project for her own home, Lori quickly realized there was an interest in this genre and began taking orders. Now, she sells these paintings at galleries and art shows, as well as on special request.
